Fall Science Talk: Rapid Bioassessment

Across the past two years, Tryon Creek Watershed Council has been working with funding from the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board (OWEB) to develop a Rapid Bioassessment. This is the first scientifically grounded planning document focused on the full Tryon Creek watershed, which we know supports a very healthy coastal cutthroat trout population.

Why a Rapid Bioassessment? “Rapid Bioassessment” isn’t an informal description of a rushed project – it’s a type of document with EPA-led protocols, that pulls together available information to provide a jump-start to watershed planning. This is a first for Tryon Creek Watershed Council, in part because as a WC that hasn’t been eligible to receive Capacity Funding from OWEB we haven’t been required to have and report on a plan like this before, like most WCs in Oregon have and do. This project has synthesized data, identified actions & strategies in the watershed that could provide the best ecological uplift, and will be useful in making the case for funding projects and/or programs we choose to pursue. 

John Dvorsky with Waterways Consulting Inc., who has been long familiar with the Tryon Creek watershed and led this work, will be presenting. This process has been supported by our critical network of staff at partner agencies & organizations, including staff from both cities of Portland & Lake Oswego, Oregon State Parks, ODFW, Friends of Tryon Creek, and others.
